Jude Travel Park

A review of our time at Jude Travel Park in New Orleans.

How We Heard of Them

Researching places to stay in New Orleans, there are many options for RV's and campers.

In October, I started looking for places that had availability in New Orleans for the month of January. As I began reaching out to different parks in the area, I was comparing price, location in proximity to the city, amenities, hookups, and safety.

Price

We give that 5 stars - I think $720 for a month in New Orleans with full hookups (electric, water, and sewage), wifi, a pool and hot tub, bathrooms/showers, coin opt laundry, and surrounded by a gate with a security code was a fantastic price. Now “in New Orleans” means about a 20 minute drive via the highway to get to the Garden District or French Quarter, they also had a shuttle service for $5 and bus information but we did not utilize either.

Amenities Rating

We never had any issue with our hookups, and the wifi worked fairly well. We travel with a mobile wifi router that I use to teach via live video meetings and sometimes I would use the park's wifi and it worked fine. I noticed it mostly would go in and out during the evenings and weekends (when more people were probably using it). The water pressure was good and the bathrooms/showers were clean and locked - they could only be accessed by a pin # that you receive at check-in.

Super Friendly Owner

We only interacted with Marla, while reserving, checking in, and throughout our stay. She was very helpful and upon our arrival, she showed us a couple different available site. She even gave us some insight on the pets of the different campers so we could keep that in mind as she let us pick our spot. Then she stayed and gave directions to help guide us as we backed the camper in.

Noise

The back of the park goes right up to a train yard, and trains can be noisy. We did have a moment where we worried we had made a mistake when the loud sounds and bright lights all through the nights kept us from sleeping much. But like magic, after 2-3 nights, we were sleeping through the night completely unbothered. So the rest of the month we had no issues with being by a trainyard. Before bed most nights, we would hear loud popping noises, then a car with a loud exhaust peeling away. These bangs and car noises became like a ritual, and whenever we felt sketched out by what we were hearing, we rested easier knowing not only was there the fence, but those huge trains creating a wall between us and the sounds.

Which Site to Pick?

So we picked a spot in the very back, which had pros and cons. We were right next to the dumpster, which was convenient for taking out the trash. It also meant a lot of noise for a few minutes on garbage day. We were right next to the trains and bright lights, but on the other hand, not many other campers parked way in the back. This was an RV park with people camped in like sardines, but we had space for 1-2 campers next to us but it was all for us which we and the cats really enjoyed. We were furthest from the entrance gate, but if the area sketched us out, we felt that was a plus since it was only locked after a certain hour. The entrance was also home to many stray cats, which were adorable and a joy to drive by whenever we came and left the park, but since we had our own cats, we preferred distance between us and them. We were far from the bathrooms/showers and pool/hot tub (which are by the entrance), but we had full hookups and were able to use the bathroom in the camper so that wasn’t an issue either. Overall, we felt the pros outweighed the cons and would try to get in the back again if we ever came back.

This picture is taken from by the back fence, you can see the gravel of the empty site next to us and glimpse the RV's on the other side. It's like a parking lot with campers parked up either side of the fence.

Taken from in front of the camper, you can see the fence and the trains right on the other side. The dumpster is right in the middle of the back side.

Overall Rating

I would recommend Jude Trailer Park to RV people looking for a place to stay in New Orleans - just make sure you know you are right by the railroads. We stayed a month and many campers were there before and after we arrived. We met people who travel for work, or travel while they work who spoke about choosing to come to this park time and time again, and we would also look into staying here again if (more like when) we come back to visit this city.
